Antibiotic Resistance Working Party (Disbanded)

This Working Party studies the rise of Antibiotic resistance (‘ABR’) and how it has become an increasing concern to the medical professions, health services and governments of the world’s major economies. Given its potential impact, the subject is now of increasing concern to insurers and reinsurers from a mortality perspective, and to a lesser extent pensions actuaries.

Key objectives:

  • Produce a paper summarising the main issues relating to sources of ABR, mitigation actions being investigated, recent trends, and publicly available projection results / methodologies
  • Develop a simple modelling framework with plausible parameterisation to allow actuaries to develop their own views on likely and stress mortality impacts
  • This framework would be developed in a UK context but would be expected to be readily transferable to other countries
