This talk presents the work of the Data and Modelling workstream of the IFoA Mental Health Working Party. We explore data and modelling considerations in the risk assessment and underwriting of mental health conditions. We will also consider how newer risk factors and improved data availability might open up opportunities for additional underwriting and product designs.
The main focus of our talk is on life insurance, but many of the principles discussed are likely to be translatable into other health and protection insurance products. Rather than being a prescriptive recommendation, our aim is for this presentation and our accompanying working party paper to form a basis of discussion for Members of the Profession and other insurance professionals.
